Transform trials and hurts into life changing benefits
By: Daniel Jurek, M.Min., M.A.
“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” (Romans 12:12)
Turning and transforming the negative experiences of our life into something positive actually gives us hope. It also gives us a new freedom and victory over damaging negative emotions like anger, worry, fear and stress.
The first step is to inspect the actual damage done. Just as something which appears to good to be true usually isn’t as it appears, so also nothing is ever as bad as it seems. Write it down, explore the facts and name it.
Next, avoid extreme thoughts. We see only that which we focus on. Instead, storm your brain to create new ways of thinking about what happened and new opportunities this situation may bring to your life.
The next step is to avoid blame. Don’t beat yourself up over mistakes and don’t waste time blaming others for their mistreatment. Avoid shame and blame and your recovery and victory will be much quicker.
Then, allow yourself to grieve. By not grieving, you can fall into denial and stuff the feelings so deep that you think you’ve avoided the impact of the problem.
Finally, choose to grow beyond your trials and negative experiences. Find someone who can help you navigate to a new place and instill a new hope for your life. Then, with God’s help, you will transform your life into something magnificent!
