Here is your weekly dose of Friday Focus, a smattering of what I’m reading, doing, listening to, watching or pondering.
What I’m reading – The holidays are not easy for many folks. In preparing for my late November/December radio programs (Brokenhearted on Radio Maria), I came across a wonderful book: The Empty Chair: Handling Grief on Holidays and Special Occasions. If you or someone you know is going to struggle this holiday season, I recommend this resource.
Resource suggestion for Advent/Christmas – I mentioned this last week; I really like Advent and Christmas. I found this good blog of resources and ideas for to celebrate the season. Enjoy Getting Our Families Ready for Advent and Christmas.
What I’ll be listening to – I make a conscious effort to listen to Christmas music somewhere in the middle of Advent through the Christmas season. I know I can’t avoid what’s in the shopping centers, malls, media, etc., but I still try to control when I intentionally play it. But when I do this year, I know that I will be wanting to hear Lauren Daigle’s “Behold: Christmas Collection”. I can’t wait – though waiting is what Advent is all about.
Quote I’m pondering – (Thanks Mike Patin for this one. I’ve pondering this entire Thanksgiving week!) “In ordinary life, we hardly realize that we receive a great deal more than we give, and that it is only with gratitude that life becomes rich.” – Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Listen in –
On Thursday nights from 8-9 PM (cst) I host the program, ‘Brokenhearted’ on Radio Maria.us. You can stream it live if you can’t get it over the airwaves. You can also go to Radio Maria and listen to previously recorded broadcasts of the program.
