Friday Focus – January 31, 2020

Here is your weekly dose of Friday Focus, a smattering of what I’m reading, listening to, learning, watching or pondering.

What I’m readingHealing as a Servant Rather than a Prophet, Michael Lee, M.D., J.D. This wonderful article for all those who care for the medical, physical, educational, emotional and spiritual needs of others. So often it’s not our knowledge, training and competency that matters to those we care for, it’s our willingness to accompany them, however briefly – “to attend to them not as distant prophet, but as a trusted servant.”

What I’m listening to (and watching on youtube) – One of the best, soul stirring Facebook videos I’ve seen in a very long time. Don’t overlook the wisdom (and the voice of the Most High) in those who most folks dismiss. I hope this blesses your day. Thank you, Jules Arceneaux, for sharing this with me.

What I’m watching – I know it’s the counselor in me, yet I really do enjoy the television show “Brain Games” on National Geographic. Last week was even more of a delight because Drew Brees was on the show. I was impressed with his throwing ability (not a surprise) and was incredibly impressed and surprised by his ability to track the footballs and pandas.

Sacred Scripture I’m pondering – “For He Himself (God) has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’” ~ Hebrews 13:5

Practicing ridiculous generosity – Behaving generously is a pathway to a richer, fuller life. Behaving generously opens our hearts and minds to the larger picture of gratitude, joy, and living a peace-filled life. In the next several installments of Friday Focus, I will be offering “the week’s ridiculous generosity challenge.” If you don’t like the one I propose, feel free to create your own.

The week’s ridiculous generosity challenge: Turn a photo from your smartphone into a real postcard. Send it.

Quote I’m pondering – “Spirituality is recognizing and celebrating that we are all inextricably connected to each other by a power greater than all of us, and that our connection to that power and to one another is grounded in love and compassion”. ~ Brene’ Brown
