Friday Focus – January 17, 2020

Here is your weekly dose of Friday Focus, a smattering of what I’m reading, listening to, learning, watching or pondering.

What I’m readingNative Knowledge: What Ecologists Are Learning from Indigenous People. This timely piece by Jim Robbins is important for all of us who understand that we are stewards of Mother Earth. From Alaska to Australia, scientists are turning to the knowledge of traditional people for a deeper understanding of the natural world. What they are learning is helping them discover more about everything from melting Arctic ice, to protecting fish stocks, to controlling wildfires.

What I’m listening toLovesong from the Mountains: Deuter – Koyasana: reiki sound healing. Thanks to my dear college friend Dan Jeans for recommending this soothing, calming, delightful music. It’s going to be played by me over and over again.

Sacred Scripture I’m pondering – “Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked. For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless. Lord Almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in you”. – Psalm 84:10-12

Practicing ridiculous generosity – Behaving generously is a pathway to a richer, fuller life. Behaving generously opens our hearts and minds to the larger picture of gratitude, joy and living a peace-filled life. In the next several installments of Friday Focus, I will be offering “the week’s ridiculous generosity challenge.” If you don’t like the one I propose, feel free to create your own.

The week’s ridiculous generosity challenge: Purchase a Target or Costco gift card for someone you see almost every day but don’t talk to: on the bus, at the gym, at a store, in the office building.

Prayer I’m pondering – O Great Love, thank you for living and loving in us and through us. May all that we do flow from our deep connection with you and all beings. Help us become a community that vulnerably shares each other’s burdens and the weight of glory. Listen to our hearts’ longings for the healing of our world. [Please add your own intentions.] . . . Knowing you are hearing us better than we are speaking, we offer these prayers in all the holy names of God, amen. ~ Richard Rohr

Highlighting Braintap – I can’t tell you how excited I am to tell you about our all-new service that may help you transform your life, achieve any goal, and accelerate your success effortlessly! It’s called BrainTap Technology and believe me when I tell you, it’s the most sophisticated (yet simple) personal improvement system I’ve ever witnessed.

(See last week’s Friday Focus to learn more). I am using The Life Intermittent Fasting app which allows you to track your progress on any fasting schedule since you’re able to set the start and end time and goals for how long you want to fast for. Feel free to join me on this app. I have created a “Circle” to stay connected and support one another along the journey. The Circle that I have created is named: Fasting For Wellness
