Here is your weekly dose of Friday Focus, a smattering of what I’m reading, listening to, learning, watching or pondering.
An excellent Valentine gift for you and your partner – Candace and I are doing our next Hold Me Tight for Christian Couples retreat on Friday and Saturday, March 6 & 7, 2020. Our HMT is small and intimate – only 6 couples attend per retreat. This retreat is for all couples and makes a fantastic Valentine’s gift – one that will last throughout your marriage. Register here and get this Valentine’s day gift offer – $635/couple – an additional $60 off the early registration date. You must register by Sunday night February 9th – 11:59 pm to get this Valentine gift offer.
What I’m reading – Black Wave by Kim Ghattas. I haven’t taken the dive into beginning to understand the Middle East, but the author’s interview on Fresh Air (NPR) piqued my interest to jump in and begin to learn a little more. The book weaves together history, geopolitics, and culture to help the reader understand the rivalry between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
What I’m listening to – “Touched by the Sun” by Todd Boston is a wonderful acoustic treat. Todd invokes the feeling of nature in his melodic, and rhythmic playing to inspire and soothe his listeners. I am really enjoying his musical style, especially enjoying the track “Celtic Heart”.
What I’m watching – Many people have recommended that I watch the Netflix movie “The Two Popes.” Conversations that might have been exchanged between these two influential men. I will watch it this weekend. If you have seen it or see it this weekend, let me know please what you think/thought of it.
New! Monthly Couple Challenge – Recreate your first date. Take this as literally as you want. Whether it’s going to the actual location of your first date or simply enjoying the same type of cuisine or activity you did that night, pay homage to your first date in some way. Have fun reminiscing about your first impressions of each other.
We’ll do this on February _____________.
We’ll do it again? Yes / No When? _____________
Want to change anything___________________?
Sacred Scripture I’m pondering – “Cast your cares on the Lord and He will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.” Psalm 55:22
Practicing ridiculous generosity – Behaving generously is a pathway to a richer, fuller life. Behaving generously opens our hearts and minds to the larger picture of gratitude, joy, and living a peace-filled life. In the next several installments of Friday Focus, I will be offering “the week’s ridiculous generosity challenge.” If you don’t like the one I propose, feel free to create your own.
The week’s ridiculous generosity challenge: Because it’s that time of year in Cajun Country; send a King Cake to a friend’s office. Rickey Meche’s Donut King
Quote I’m pondering – “Our stories are one of the richest gifts we have to offer the world because, in telling our story, everyone finds a place at the table.” Mirabai Starr
Peace and Blessings.
