Friday Focus – February 28, 2020

Here is your weekly dose of Friday Focus, a smattering of what I’m reading, listening to, learning, watching or pondering.

What I’m readingFrancis: The Journey and the Dream by Fr Murray Bodo will be on my reading list for the first part of my Lenten journey. This influential book is always renewing, always transforming because it is written to inspire people of all ages with its lyrical prose and depth of love for the Poor Man of Assisi. I have lost count of the number of times over the last 38 years that I have read this classic.

A TEDx Klagenfurt performance that was uplifting – Thank you Jules Arceneaux for sharing The Most Unexpected Acoustic Guitar Performance by Showhadk Duo. If you can only listen to a part of this, I strongly encourage you to start at 15:48 and listen to their version of Bohemian Rhapsody. As a guitar player myself, I am delighted and amazed.

What I’m watching – I think this was an intro to the CMA’s a while ago. A dear friend sent it to me this weekend and I really enjoyed watching Forever Country. Of course, it starts with John Denver’s “Country Roads”, a little bit of Dolly, Willie and a lot of different artists…. It’s fun to watch!

New! Monthly Couple Challenge (last chance date for February) – Recreate your first date. Take this as literally as you want. Whether it’s going to the actual location of your first date or simply enjoying the same type of cuisine or activity you did that night, pay homage to your first date in some way. Have fun reminiscing about your first impressions of each other.
We’ll do this on February _____________.
We’ll do it again? Yes / No When? _____________

Sacred Scripture I’m pondering – “Yet even now, says the Lord, return to me with your whole heart, with fasting, and weeping, and mourning: rend your hearts, not your garments, and return to the Lord, your God.” Joel 2: 12,13

Practicing ridiculous generosity – Behaving generously is a pathway to a richer, fuller life. Behaving generously opens our hearts and minds to the larger picture of gratitude, joy, and living a peace-filled life.

The week’s ridiculous generosity challenge: Pray and fast for someone you know with the intention that they may experience God’s love in a deeper way. Send them a kind note telling them you are presenting them to the Lord in prayer and fasting.

Quote I’m pondering – “I deeply believe our nation needs to find a way to move forward, but I also am deeply convinced that we can’t do that without looking behind us. You know, it’s fascinating that people of color are told by this country, get over the past, forget about it, you know, just move on. And yet then the mantra at 9-11 is “never forget”, you know? And so that’s the discrepancy: This nation wants to remember some things, but there are many things it also doesn’t want to remember. That’s what we have to deal with.” – Mark Charles

Lenten Peace and Blessings.
