Friday Focus – December 6, 2019

Hello everybody!

Here is your weekly dose of Friday Focus, a smattering of what I’m reading, listening to, learning, watching or pondering.

What I’m readingThe Four Horseman: Criticism, Contempt, Defense and Stonewalling by Ellie Lesita. The work of John Gottman has been paramount in couples therapy. Most noted for his description of the Four Horseman. This article describes each of the horsemen and includes a simple, yet very effective video to summarize this concept. Watch this and see if this pattern is in your marriage.

Light Therapy that I’m experiencing and exploring: TheraLight 360 Advanced Red and Near-Infrared Light Therapy Technology. Dr. Chris Cormier, Founder of the Nerve Health Institute here in Lafayette offers this unique red light therapy. I have been struggling with low energy, lethargy and finding that life is grueling. I met with Dr. Chris and he suggested that I try this therapy bed. The therapy exposes me to light that reduces oxidative stress and increases cellular energy (ATP). This, in turn, improves cell metabolism and reduces inflammation. This is my experience. After 10 treatments over 4 weeks, I am experiencing more energy, less swelling in joints and overall feeling better. I am now in my second round of 10 treatments and will report in a couple of weeks the results.

What I’m WatchingWhat Happens to Your Body When You Fast – Hour by Hour Breakdown. Dr. Mindy does an excellent job walking viewers through from the moment you stop eating all the way through five days. She explains what happens chemically in your body to understand the miraculous gift of the body.

Sacred Scripture I’m pondering: “Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.” Isaiah 1:18

Practicing ridiculous generosity: Behaving generously is a pathway to a richer, fuller life. Behaving generously opens our hearts and minds to the larger picture of gratitude, joy and living a peace-filled life. In the next several installments of Friday Focus, I will be offering “the week’s ridiculous generosity challenge.” If you don’t like the one I propose, feel free to create your own.

“The week’s ridiculous generosity challenge”: Buy a meal for a stranger and start a magical chain reaction.

Quote I’m pondering – “To a disciple who was forever complaining about others, the Master said, ‘If it is peace you want, seek to change yourself, not other people. It is easier to protect your feet with slippers than to carpet the whole of the earth.’”
Anthony de Mello

Another Hold Me Tight for Couples – Candace and I are hosting another Hold Me Tight for Christian Couples. It will be on January 24 &25, 2020, here in Lafayette. Our focus is to make these intimate and powerfully effective. Because of this, we are only taking 6 couples. Be sure to sign up here. This would make a great Christmas present for you and your spouse, or a couple who you know.

Join me on the fasting journey: Many of you know I am diving deep into the fasting lifestyle. Not just for weight loss; for emotional and spiritual benefit as well. (See last week’s Friday Focus to learn more). I am using The Life Intermittent Fasting app which allows you to track your progress on any fasting schedule since you’re able to set the start and end time and goals for how long you want to fast for. Feel free to join me on this app. I have created a Circle to stay connected and support one another along the journey.. The Circle that I have created is named: Fasting For Wellness
