Friday Focus – December 20, 2019

Hello everybody!

Here is your weekly dose of Friday Focus, a smattering of what I’m reading, listening to, learning, watching or pondering.

I hope you join me in prayerful, joyful anticipation of celebrating the coming of Christ this Christmas.

What I’m readingTo Bless the Space Between Us by John O’ Donohue. This is more of a lifelong handbook of reflections and blessings for the many experiences of human existence: blessings, struggles, life and death. A wonderful companion throughout life’s journey.

What I’m WatchingChristmas Novena – “O Antiphons” these last days of Advent are one of the highlights of my liturgical prayer during the entire year. Here’s today’s reflective prayer.

Sacred Scripture I’m pondering: “I place the key of the House of David on his shoulder; when he opens, no one shall shut, when he shuts, no one shall open.” (Isaiah 22:22)

Practicing ridiculous generosity: Behaving generously is a pathway to a richer, fuller life. Behaving generously opens our hearts and minds to the larger picture of gratitude, joy and living a peace-filled life. In the next several installments of Friday Focus, I will be offering “the week’s ridiculous generosity challenge.” If you don’t like the one I propose, feel free to create your own.

The week’s ridiculous generosity challenge: Be like Diane von Furstenberg and “start your day by sending out one email specifically designed to help somebody else” – without directly benefiting you at all – before you do anything else. Make an introduction, send some encouragement, offer a helpful resource or link.

Quote I’m pondering – “By his own will Christ was dependent on Mary during Advent: he was absolutely helpless; he could go nowhere but where she chose to take him; he could not speak; her breathing was his breath; his heartbeat in the beating of her heart…. In the seasons of our Advent – waking, working, eating, sleeping, being – each breath is a breathing of Christ into the world.” ~ Caryll Houselander

Another Hold Me Tight for Couples – Candace and I are hosting another Hold Me Tight for Christian Couples. It will be on January 24 &25, 2020, here in Lafayette. Our focus is to make these intimate and powerfully effective. Because of this, we are only taking 6 couples. Be sure to sign up here. This would make a great Christmas present for you and your spouse, or a couple who you know.

More on Braintap – BrainTap’s neuro-algorithm produces brainwave entertainment — the synchronization of brainwaves to a specialized sound — with no user effort. The result of which is full-spectrum brainwave activity. Using this matrix of neuro-activity, each of BrainTap’s sessions is encoded differently to ensure maximum neuro-plasticity — the brain’s ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections, resulting in a flexible and resilient brain.
