Here is your weekly dose of Friday Focus, a smattering of what I’m reading, doing, listening to, watching or pondering.
What I’m reading – A Year with Thomas Merton: Daily Meditations from His Journals. This book of daily inspiration will be part of my 2019 spiritual journey.
What’s inspiring me – Listening to and praying the O Antiphons brings calm and serenity. The season of Advent continues to be my favorite season. The O Antiphons are used during the last seven days of Advent, traditionally at the evening prayer known as “Vespers”. They refer to the prophecy spoken of in the book of Isaiah – of the coming of the Messiah. A wonderful 7-day exploration of hope and anticipation. I know that I shared this last year, but it bears repeating.
A helpful App – Mind Shift is one of the best mental health apps designed specifically for teens and young adults with anxiety. Rather than trying to avoid anxious feelings, Mind Shift stresses the importance of changing how you think about anxiety. Think of this app as the cheerleader in your pocket, encouraging you to take charge of your life, ride out intense emotions, and face challenging situations.
Quote I’m pondering – “Into this world, this demented inn, in which there is absolutely no room for Him at all, Christ has come uninvited. But because He cannot be at home in it, because He is out of place in it, and yet He must be in it, His place is with those others for whom there is no room. His place is with those who do not belong, who are rejected by power because they are regarded as weak, those who are discredited, who are denied the status of persons, tortured, exterminated. With those for whom there is no room, Christ is present in this world.” ~ Thomas Merton
