Friday Focus – August 9, 2019

Hello everybody!

Here is your weekly dose of Friday Focus, a smattering of what I’m reading, listening to, learning, watching or pondering.

What I’m reading
The Mirroring Gaze is a beautiful reflection on the intersection between attachment theory and spiritual growth and prayer. We are all called to enter into the Gaze with God and with others… dare I say, within our very selves. Healthy relationships and spirituality lead us beyond the human level of feeling … it’s the way see everything and everyone around us.

What I’m watching
My workday startup routine has been enjoyable these last few weeks as I have had the JuneauHarbor Webcam on one of my screens. With the time difference in Alaska, most mornings I get to watch at least two cruise ships come into port and dock. I look forward to this tiny pleasure!

What I’m listening to
I saw Vishten a few years ago at Festival International de Louisane. Listening to them again is just a delight.

Quote I’m pondering
“Who can save a child from a burning house without taking the risk of being hurt by the flames? Who can listen to a story of loneliness and despair without taking the risk of experiencing similar pains in his own heart and even losing his precious peace of mind? In short: Who can take away suffering without entering it?”
-Henri J.M. Nouwen, The Wounded Healer: Ministry in Contemporary Society
