Friday Focus – August 16, 2019

Hello everybody!

Here is your weekly dose of Friday Focus, a smattering of what I’m reading, listening to, learning, watching or pondering.

What I’m reading – Listening to Sr. Helen on “Fresh Air” (see :‘what I’m listening to’ below) compelled me to pick up her new memoir, River of Life: My Spiritual Journey. Though I’ve just cracked the binding, I am intrigued to read about this powerful, compassionate woman’s life.

What I’m watching
The sunsets over the last several days have been just spectacular. Sometimes the sky itself is all I really need to watch when I’m needing to just “be”.

What I’m listening to
Sister Helen Prejean on Witnessing Executions: “I couldn’t let them die alone.” The author of Dead Man Walking is interviewed by Terry Gorss of NPR’s Fresh Air. Sr. Helen is a dynamic woman of faith, bold, fearless and a model of solidarity with those who suffer. Listening to her is simply inspiring.

Quote I’m pondering
“Someday, after mastering the winds, the waves, the tides and gravity, we shall harness for God the energies of love, and then, for the second time in the history of the world, humankind will have discovered fire”. ~ Fr. Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
