Friday Focus – April 26, 2019

Hello everybody!

Here is your weekly dose of Friday Focus, a smattering of what I’m reading, doing, listening to, watching or pondering.

What I’m reading
33 Days to Merciful Love by Fr. Thomas Gaitley. More than just a daily preparation for consecration; this book for me has been a wonderful primer to the life and spirituality of St. Therese’ of Lisieux. Fr. Gaitley is a wonderful writer and his style is very easy to read.

What I’m watching
This excellent Ted talk came across my desk this week. Dr. Buke Harris does a fantastic job explaining the effects of childhood trauma. She states that childhood trauma is not something that you just get over as you grow up. It has tangible effects on the development of the brain and therefore influences and inhibits our ability to be in good relationships, stay healthy, learn as well as a host of other areas. If you or someone you know has been affected by childhood trauma, get help so that you can achieve all that God has for you and live life to the fullest.

Quote I’m pondering – Thanks Mike Patin for this one. I’ve been pondering it all week.
“In the second half of life you are strong enough to hold together contradictions in yourself and others with compassion, forgiveness, and patience. You realize that your chosenness is for the sake of letting others know they are also chosen.” ~ Richard Rohr
